Course Introduction
Welcome to Teaching the Energy-Water Nexus in the Elementary Classroom, a course designed to help you understand and teach one of the most important, yet often overlooked, relationships in our world today. As educators, we know how vital it is to help students connect the dots between the systems that support their daily lives. This course will give you the scientific background, classroom strategies, and real-world context to introduce the energy-water nexus in a way that’s meaningful, age-appropriate, and deeply relevant to sustainability education.
Throughout this course, we’ll focus on building a solid understanding of the energy-water nexus itself. What is it? Why does it matter? And how do energy and water depend on each other in ways that impact everything from electricity and agriculture to climate and community health?
